Upon careful assessment, it has been found that the commonly used term steampunk was originally used in 1987 to mainly refer to speculative fiction, which included either or a mix of fantasy, science fiction and modified historical tales. These tales were purposefully set in an alternate Earth of the 19th century. But in today’s time, it has emerged to become much more than a writing genre. This word represents a whole new lifestyle and reflects a differently designed subculture altogether.

The Victorian touch

The term Steampunk is related to the design and production of items that combine the Victorian splendor and functionality to the highly dignified power of the steam in the industrial era. Sometimes it refers to a post-apocalyptic era when weapons and gadgets of today’s technology couldn’t sustain or survive; but the steam era along with the industrial revolution managed to take leads. That is why the essence of Victorian era Art is clearly visible on all the contemporary products connected with this alternative genre of lifestyle. This has inspired a wide range of products starting from gadgets to home décor, jewelry and furniture. The Victorian era was the legendary period, when the inventors of that era had made great achievements in the form of discoveries of new technologies and products using the legendary power of steam engines. Today, although human civilization has come far beyond those industrial era techniques, there are hundreds of artists who keep modifying objects to give it a steampunk aesthetic.

The unique designs

The uniqueness of the products and gadgets of this genre lies in the fact that these impressive goods are classic combinations of contemporary and old resulting in an overall stupendous effect. Designers have designed numerous such goods ranging from simplistic to complex looks to meet the tastes of the consumer. Sometimes these designs are referred to as neo-Victorian or pseudo-Victorian since there is a strong essence of the past, which has been emphasized and is very much noticeable in each of them. Owning one such product is like owning something from a world never seen earlier.
There are die-hard fans that are ready to shell out thousands of dollars for one unique creation. Depending on the usability and showcase tags, the price of these creations may vary from a few dollars to a few thousand dollars. These designs merge today’s world to an old one, making it a brilliant experience to be enjoyed!
