What is Steampunk? Learn more...

 It is a unique definition

Steampunk is not only about a certain style of clothing, gadgets, watches or goggles; it is much more than that. It is something that let’s an individual express his unique personality. It is something that allows individuals to express their style & expression in a totally different manner. It is about being different than the common lifestyle; it is about cutting a unique and exclusive definition. Following this lifestyle, a fan not only keeps in touch with the past, but also gives off an aura of being different in spite of living in contemporary times.

What it was THEN

The term steampunk has a retroactive connection largely defining and representing a whole new world of followers, lifestyle and possibilities. Originally, it represented to a certain genre of fiction or works of fiction created in the 1950s and 1960s. It used to symbolize that genre of fantasy fiction and also science fiction, which was connected to elements of the Victorian era, specially the steam engines. Even before this term was coined in 1987, several works in that line had been produced by noted authors and fil-makers. The film Metropolis (1927) is considered an accountable piece of film-work to have represented this as one emerging genre. Among the contemporary movies, Hellboy, Van Helsing, Wild Wild West and World of Tomorrow are excellent examples of movie making in that genre. Similarly, in the field of Art, Remedios Varo’s paint works combined Victorian elements to techno-fantasy imagery taking this to a new level.

What it is NOW


Today, the concept of steampunk has come out of movies, books and painting. Now it is a part of just about everything. It has emerged to become a complete culture giving birth to a new lifestyle with thousands of people following it. It has broken the barriers of literature or film-making by moving into the real lives of people. Today, it encompasses a great range of aesthetic principles and philosophy that builds the steampunk generation. It has inspired present day graphic novels, fashion accessories, unique gadgets, video games, cars, jewelry and many more other things. It has become a combination of futuristic machines combined with the Victorian steam powered ones. Interestingly, a few most creative sections of people are involved in creating goods for the fans of this philosophy. All such fans follow a certain set of similar attributes and a common philosophy that can stand on its own and embodies a set of thoughts, outfits and personalities that makes everything extraordinary.
